Idaho is one of the 50 states of the United States of North America. The state is located in the Western region of the US and has a population of 1,584,985 (2011). The capital is Boise and the standard abbreviation for the state is ID.
Idaho is bordered to the east by Montana and Wyoming, to the south by Nevada and Utah, to the west by Washington and Oregon and to the north by neighboring Canada.
With an average elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level, the state is one of the most hilly states in the United States.
Much of mountainous Idaho is taken up by the Rocky Mountains. The highest point in the state at 3,857 meters is Borah Peak.
From the border with Canada, parallel chains of the Rocky Mountains extend southeast across two-thirds of the state.
Southern Idaho is part of the Intermontane Plateaus.
The Hell’s Canyon gorge, of the longest Snake River, on the border with the state of Oregon, is 225 kilometers long. It is the deepest canyon in the United States.

Lakes and Rivers
The most important river in Idaho is the Snake River. It forms part of the border with the states of Washington and Oregon.
Idaho has about 1,750 lakes. The largest lakes are Coeur d’Alene Lake, Lake Pend Oreille, Bear Lake, and the American Falls Reservoir.

Idaho has a continental climate. The climate is moderated by the influence of the Pacific Ocean.
Major tourist attractions in Idaho include Lake Coeur d’Alene, Hell’s Canyon, Craters of the Moon National Monument, Pend Oreille Lake, Shoshone Falls.
About 5 miles east of Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls is a waterfall on the Snake River.

City Of Rocks NR
The City of Rocks National Reserve is a unique geological area where granite rocks up to 60 meters high are hidden, the age of which is estimated to be more than 2.5 million years. It is a very nice area, which is sought after by climbers from all over the world thanks to its smooth rocks. Today, there are more than 500 climbing routes of various levels of difficulty.
There are many interesting rock formations in the reserve, the most famous of which are probably the Twin sisters. However, it is interesting that one of the rocks is 100 years older than the other. This unusual place contributes to the interest of the entire park and is the most interesting landscape feature.
Between 1843 and 1869, hordes of emigrants headed for sunny California passed through this area. When crossing the mountains, they had to leave their wagons here and set out on foot for a better future. Their traces can still be seen on many rocks to this day, because they left their signatures and messages on many rocks with the help of kolomaz.
The nature in the reserve is also unique, for example, there are pines, which are the largest pines in Idaho with a height of about 55 feet. Other representatives of the plant kingdom are junipers, aspens, mahogany, and steppes spread out at higher altitudes. The most suitable time for recreation is from April to October, there is also the possibility of camping in the rock town. There is even drinking water and toilets available. Over 22 miles of trails run through the rock town, so you can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, or mountain biking.
Everywhere you will be surrounded by unique and untouched nature, which is home to numerous species of desert fauna and flora. The reserve provides high biodiversity in a relatively small area. A large number of different mammals, birds, reptiles and invertebrates have found their refuge here. If you’re lucky, you might spot deer, wild rabbits, ground squirrels, marmots, Mexican mice or bighorn sheep. However, the most important inhabitants of the reserve include cougar, bobcat, coyote and moose. Antelopes and bison are somewhat more common.
