What does IOC Stand for

The International Olympic Committee

IOC is the acronym for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), also known by the English acronym IOC. Is a non-governmental organization founded in June 1894 with the goal of rescuing the Olympics of ancient Greece. The creator of the IOC, the educator and historian Pierre de Coubertin, went down in history as the founder of the modern Olympic Games, which are held every four years in a different host city. The first Olympics after the IOC took place in 1896, about 1500 years after the last Olympic Games of Greece.

Currently the Committee remains with the profit from the sale of official merchandise of the Olympic Games, like plushes, t-shirts and other items. The IOC also sells broadcast rights for the games, which is the main way of raising funds. The Committee elects a President every four years, with the right to re-election. This President represents the entity, and is elected by secret ballot by the Assembly Committee. The current goal of the IOC is to manage the Olympics, in addition to legislate on them. Is the Committee that holds the rights of brands from the Olympics, as the Olympic flag and anthem. The Committee organizes the summer Olympic Games and winter.
