What is PS

Originally PS has the context of “post scriptum” or, in Latin, “written after”, acronym used at the end of a letter, adding information that had not been included and that was of capital importance for the content of the letter.

What is PS

Over time, however, it has turned into a rhetorical strategy. In addition to correcting memory lapses, it informs that the message was not included. It also serves to highlight an idea that should be taken into account. This detail may also explain why, even with corrective features on the computer, we still encounter a “PS” in e-mail, for example.

The abbreviation “PS” can also be replaced by ” Obs. ” Or ” In time “, which demonstrates the need to highlight more relevant information, or also so that this information, even if not in the body of the text, is considered as the most important.

Considering also the great ease that we have to establish acronyms for words or expressions widely used, “PS” also has other meanings, in Portuguese as well as in other languages, or it also informs services:

  • In German, it is the abbreviation of “power” (pferdestärke);
  • In English, it can be the “Premium Service”, a service offered by United Airlines;
  • In the area of health has the meaning of First Aid;
  • In religion is the acronym of Pastor, minister of Pentecostal church;
  • Still in English is the acronym for the Book of Psalms (Psalms);
  • In politics is the acronym commonly used for Socialist Parties;
  • In computing is the abbreviation of the Playstation, video game console of Sony;
  • On the Internet is the TLD code (list of internet domains) for the State of Palestine.

PS – We should consider it relevant to note that we need to check the context in which the abbreviation “PS” is found to classify its meaning.
