South Carolina is one of the 50 states of the United States of North America. The state is located in the Southern region of the US and has 4,679,230 inhabitants (2011). The capital is Columbia and the standard abbreviation for the state is SC.

The climate in South Carolina varies and is temperate in the northwest and subtropical in the southeast.
Major tourist attractions in the state include the cities of Charleston and Georgetown.

Kings Mountain National Military Park
Kings Mountain is the second oldest revolutionary monument in the country. On October 7, 1780, an important battle took place here, the outcome of which had a great influence on the course of the entire American Civil War. American and British soldiers took part in the battle, fighting for independence, but also for loyalty to England.
Patrick Ferguson was a British commander who participated in the Battle of Kings Mountain. He became especially famous for his unique weapon, which was loaded from behind and did not require a magazine. The person who used it did not have to stand, but could be crouched or even lying in a shelter, which was not possible until now with classic rifles. Named the Ferguson after its inventor, the weapon possessed the speed of a musket and the accuracy of a rifle. She was able to fire up to 6 times per minute.
Only about 100 of these weapons were produced at that time. Ferguson ordered that in 1777 all officers who were to test her be equipped with them. During the Battle of Brandywine, Ferguson was severely wounded and later died of his injuries. It is not known today how many of these rifles were used at Kings Mountain. Kings MOuntain National Military Park is a great place for all history and military buffs.
In the local museum, you can learn about the course of the battle and see several period items. The park definitely has a lot to offer even nature lovers, as it is interwoven with a number of hiking trails, so you can thoroughly explore it. If anyone is interested, it is possible to stay at a local campsite for the night.
Ninety Six National Historic Site
Ninety Six is an American Revolutionary War Park that has been designated a National Historic Site. Here, local rural settlers fought for survival against the Cherokee Indians, who wanted to keep their territory and prevent an even greater influx of white residents. About 100 people lost their lives here during the revolutionary battle.
Today, visitors can see the original historic Star Fort from 1781. A walk along the historic Cherokee Path or Charleston Road can also be interesting. The area where the original historic towns of Ninety Six and Cambridge stood is also certainly worth a visit. You can also see the reconstructed stilt wall and the besieged trenches. Don’t miss the historic Black Swan Tavern and many other interesting attractions.
The town got its name Ninety Six in 1730 because it was believed that 96 miles away was Keowee, home to the Cherokee Indians.
